Walking in Freedom Through Deliverance

Deliverance is the powerful work of God that sets us free from spiritual bondage, oppression, and strongholds. At Mountain of Deliverance, we believe that Jesus came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18), and that freedom is available for every believer today. This guide explores the biblical basis of deliverance and how you can walk in the freedom Christ has purchased for you.

In-Depth Discussion

What is Deliverance?

Deliverance is exercising the authority we have in Jesus Christ to overcome the influence of evil spirits. It is not about a strange or sensational experience, but about applying the victory of the Cross to our lives. Bondage can manifest in many ways, including persistent sin, irrational fears, oppressive thoughts, and unexplainable sickness. Jesus gave His followers authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19), and deliverance is simply walking in that God-given authority. It is a vital part of the gospel, demonstrating that Jesus has triumphed over darkness, and we can experience that triumph in our daily lives. It's about breaking free from anything that holds you back from becoming the person God created you to be.

Your Authority as a Believer

When you put your faith in Jesus, you are transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His Son (Colossians 1:13). You are seated with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6), far above all principalities and powers. This is your spiritual position. It means you are not fighting for victory; you are enforcing a victory that has already been won. The enemy has no legal right to oppress a believer who knows their identity and authority in Christ. This authority is not based on our own strength or righteousness, but entirely on the finished work of Jesus on the cross. We access it through faith, by believing what God's Word says about us and acting on it.

Identifying Areas of Bondage

Sometimes, the areas of bondage in our lives are obvious, like an addiction. Other times, they are more subtle. It can be helpful to prayerfully consider if there are patterns in your life or family line that seem to defy natural explanation. These can include recurring sickness, financial lack, marital strife, or persistent negative emotions like anger or fear. Recognizing these patterns is the first step toward freedom. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you discernment and to reveal any areas where the enemy may have established a stronghold. Being honest before God about these struggles opens the door for His delivering power to work.

How to Walk in Freedom

Walking in freedom is a daily process of renewing your mind and standing firm on God's Word. It involves repentance (turning away from sin), renouncing any involvement with the occult or false religions, forgiving those who have wronged you, and actively resisting the devil. James 4:7 says, 'Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.' As you submit every area of your life to God's lordship, the enemy loses his foothold. This daily walk also involves immersing yourself in Scripture, staying connected to a strong church community, and continually declaring the truths of who you are in Christ.
